Encapsulation is the treatment of an Asbestos-Containing Material (ACM) with a material that surrounds or embeds asbestos fibers in an adhesive matrix to prevent the release of fibers. The encapsulant creates a membrane over the surface (bridging encapsulant) or penetrates the material and binds its components together (penetrating encapsulant).

There are a variety of products currently on the market to encapsulate thermal ACM, and we can recommend the product that will meet your specific needs.

In some cases, encapsulation offers an economical alternative to removal. With removal, although there is a "controlled environment" under a negative pressure, there is still a fiber release. Encapsulation, if done correctly, eliminates the chance of asbestos fibers to become airborne. It is ideal for small repair-type situations (minor rips or tears) in thermal insulation. If the insulation is heavily damaged in several areas, the more cost-effective solution may be removal.

One of the down sides of encapsulation is that your home still contains the asbestos material. If an encapsulated section of insulation becomes accidentally punctured or torn, you may still have a fiber release. We can help you decide which course of action is best for your needs.
